Council meeting preview: UDO, Hugh Mercer expansion, Riverfront Park
Update: The council will now discuss Riverfront Park in the work session as well.
In a work session at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, the City Council will continue the discussion of the Unified Development Ordinance.
In the regular meeting at 7:30 p.m., the council will discuss several items. Here’s the agenda. Here are a few highlights:
- There will be a public hearing to read a resolution and appropriate funds for the expansion of Hugh Mercer Elementary School at 7:30 p.m.
- There will be a presentation about the findings at the courthouse site from Cultural Resources, Inc. You can read more about the site in a story here.
- The council will discuss awarding a contract to design Riverfront Park to Rhodeside and Harwell, a firm based in Alexandria. The contract is for $99,656 plus $7,062 for no greater than three presentations to the Architectural Review Board. The Riverfront Park Task Force evaluated 11 designs and then identified a short list of three firms. Those firms presented to the RPTF, according to a memo from Parks, Recreation and Public Facilities Director Robert Antozzi to City Manager Beverly Cameron. The city set aside $200,000 in the fiscal 2013 budget for the design of the park. The council recently identified this project as part of its goals and initiatives for the next two years. If the city hires Rhodeside and Harwell, this phase would take about six months to complete. Here’s a story about the update that the council received back in April about the project.
