Hugh Mercer students sing at Barnes and Noble opening

At today’s opening of Barnes & Noble in Central Park, students from Hugh Mercer Elementary sang to a small crowd of parents, school staff and customers.

Superintendent David Melton snipped a giant red ribbon just minutes before 9 a.m., when the store actually opened.

A portion of the proceeds from any purchase today will go back to Hugh Mercer Elementary.

This is the first Barnes & Noble in the Fredericksburg area. Here’s more information on the store.

It will have more than 60,000 books, plus newsstand titles, DVDs, gift items, a NOOK Boutique, an educational toys and games department and a café featuring Starbucks coffee and The Cheesecake Factory bakery items.

The store will have children’s and teen departments, a newsstand, a NOOK boutique, and an educational toys and games department.

Complimentary Wi-Fi Service: Customers are able to browse and download books, magazines and newspapers in seconds and check email via the free Wi-Fi connection offered at all Barnes & Noble stores. NOOK owners receive extra perks such as coupons and exclusive content from top authors when they connect their device to Barnes & Noble’s Wi-Fi through its More in Store program.

The new Barnes & Noble will be open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Sunday.
