UPDATE: Public Works Director Doug Fawcett says they are “making progress” on fixing the water main break on Lafayette Boulevard.

He said southbound traffic on Lafayette Boulevard isn’t affected and there’s one lane open for northbound traffic. He said traffic is moving slowly, but isn’t delayed.

UPDATE: There was a water main break on Alum Springs Road, and to repair that break, the city needed to shut the water supply off to the area where the break is, and had to close a valve on Lafayette Boulevard, said Doug Fawcett, the city’s director of public works.

When they got to the valve and attempted to close it, something happened and it malfunctioned, so the water to that area had to be shut off as well, Fawcett said.

He said crews are at the scene and they should know shortly how serious the repair is to make to the valve on Lafayette.

One lane is open in each direction on Lafayette Boulevard, he said. Traffic is moving, but it’s congested.

He said they don’t yet know the cause of the initial break on Alum Springs Road.

“We’re still ourselves trying to figure out what exactly happens and thus what needs to be done to repair,” he said.
