Fire department responds to Idlewild fire

The Fredericksburg Fire Department responded to a fire on Hearthstone Drive  in the Idlewild neighborhood at 8:55 Friday morning.

The homeowner noticed the fire in the dryer and called 911 and attempted to put out the flames with a fire extinguisher, according to a press release from the fire department.

This didn’t work, but the fire department used a hose line and extinguished the fire, which did work, according to the release.

There were three people in the house at the time of the fire, but all had evacuated when the fire department arrived and no one was injured.

Both floors of the home and the basement sustained heavy smoke damage.

The fire marshal’s office is conducting an origin and cause investigation. The fire originated in the dryer and appears to be accidental with the items in the dryer being ignited, according to the release.
