Fredericksburg’s Wastewater Treatment Plant will soon have more energy efficient lighting.

The project will cost $74,677, but is funded by a federal grant administered by the George Washington Regional Commission.
The grant is through the “Home Improvement with Energy Star” program. It is focused on participating regional residential home energy improvements, but there was a balance left at the end of the funding cycle that local governments could take advantage of. Local governments could submit requests for needed facility improvements, which is what Fredericksburg did.
The improvements are expected to improve the visual environment for the facility and grounds and save more than $17,600, according to the memo.
