School Board appoints Elizabeth Rehm to Ward 1 seat

The Fredericksburg School Board will have a new member in time for the next school board meeting in August.

Elizabeth Rehm was appointed to the Ward 1 seat at Monday’s meeting and will be sworn in in the next few weeks.

“I have three children in the city schools, Rehm said.

“That gives me a vested interest in having good city schools. I’m a big believer in public education.”

Rehm is a part-time physical therapist who has lived in Fredericksburg for 16 and a half years.

She said she has considered running in the past and was waiting for the right opportunity.

Rehm will be a second-generation school board member in her family. She said her father was on the school board in her hometown in Idaho.

“I’ve always kind of felt that that’s one way to make a good impact,” she said about serving on the school board.

Over the years, she has volunteered in the schools and has served on several school committees, is on the pool board at the College Heights pool and has volunteered with her son’s boyscout troop.

Rehm will serve until the November election.

She is currently in the process of collecting signatures to get on the ballot. If elected, she will serve in the Ward 1 seat for the next two years.

NOTE: The spelling of Rehm’s name has been corrected.
