Courts project to come up at two more meetings
There are two more meetings coming up where the new courthouse will be the main topic of discussion.
At 7:30 p.m. on July 9, the Architectural Review Board will review exterior changes to the new courthouse’s design proposed by the design-build team.
At 5:30 p.m. on July 10, the council will tour the interim Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court facilities at Executive Plaza.
At 5:30 p.m. on July 17, the City Council will hold another work session to discuss the project. At the last work session about the courts, the council decided to keep the height at three stories. This will be the first one with the new council.
In the mean time, demolition has started at the corner of Princess Anne and Charlotte Streets.
Bob Antozzi, the city’s parks and recreation director, is supervising the demolition. He said hazardous materials are being moved out of the two buildings right now. Over the next few weeks the demolition will continue (though you may not be able to tell from the outside.)
Part of the demolition is that the public bathrooms near the visitor center will no longer be there. Antozzi said they will be there through the Fourth of July festivities, but then they will be gone. There will be new temporary bathrooms for use after that.
