City Council to make appointment to planning commission

At Tuesday’s City Council meeting, the council will appoint a new member to the city’s planning commission.

The council has been holding interviews for the spot in its work sessions and attracted several interested candidates. The council will select one person from five applicants.

Those candidates are: Michael Craig, Ralph Hicks, James Jarrell III, JoAnne Kaiman, and Helen Ross. Here are their applications.

The planning commission conducts public hearings  to consider applications for special-use permits, site plans, subdivisions, rezonings, and zoning text amendments. It meets twice per month and makes recommendations to the City Council on applications it has received.

The current members of the planning commission are: Roy F. Gratz, Chair, Berkley M. Mitchell, Vice-Chair, Edward F. Whelan, III, Secretary, Roy E. McAfee, Shawn Lawrence, and Susan Spears.

A spot came open when Ricardo Rigual resigned his position last year.

The City Council will also make appointments to the Building Code Appeals Board, the Board of Zoning Appeals and the Towing and Recovery Advisory Board.
