Fredericksburg’s on-time graduation rate and dropout rate improves
The Virginia Department of Education released the on-time graduation rates and dropout rates for the Class of 2011 this morning.
The 2011 on-time graduation rate expresses the percentage of students who were first-time ninth graders during the 2007-2008 school year and earned a Board of Education-approved diploma within four years.
Fredericksburg’s on-time graduation rate is 83.9 percent, an improvement over last year’s 80.5 percent.
Superintendent David Melton said the number falls in line with what they expected.
The dropout rate also improved from 13.9 percent to 9.6 percent. (This is for the four-year cohort, not just one year)
“I think it’s tremendous improvement,” Melton said.
“I think they’ve done a much better job of tracking kids that leave our school and go out of state,” he said.
Statewide, the on-time graduation rate rose to 86.6 percent and the dropout rate fell to 7.2 percent.
