Calvary Christian Center reapplies for special use permit

Calvary Christian Center — the church that brought suit against the city when their special-use permit for a day school was denied– has reapplied.

There will be a public hearing during the city’s planning commission meeting on Aug. 10.

This is what the public notice says:

Special Use Permit request in order to operate a private school for children with a qualifying disability (not physical) in the Calvary christian Center located at 2222 Jefferson Davis Highway. The landowner proposes to use the property for a state-licensed day school for up to 12 children ages 8 through 15 years of age. In 2009, City Council approved a special use permit for a before- and after-school day care for up to 32 children for this property. The new application provides that if the property is used as a day care and a day school, then the day care shall also be state-licensed. The property is zoned CT, Commercial Transitional and is designated Transitional/Office on the Future Land Use Map found within the 2007 Comprehensive Plan.

I’m working on getting more information on this, so stay tuned for updates.
