City will change traffic flow for 30 days

I received this press release this morning from the city about a traffic flow change for 30 days. It will start Tuesday, July 5. Plan accordingly when you’re traveling.

In an effort to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow during the late afternoon heavy traffic period in the vicinity of the Fredericksburg train station, the City of Fredericksburg will implement the change in traffic pattern described below on Tuesday, July 5 for a thirty day trial period.

On east bound Frederick Street, at its intersection with Charles Street, left turns will be prohibited 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM Monday- Friday. Motorists approaching Charles Street on Frederick Street will still be permitted to go straight or turn right at the intersection. Motorists whose destination is west of I-95, the Four Mile Fork area or Route 3 east to south Stafford or the King George area will travel south on Charles Street to Dixon Street to the Blue and Gray Parkway.

Public Works Department staff will be obtaining traffic counts and otherwise observing traffic flow during the thirty day trial period that the left turn prohibition will be in effect. Additional public notice will then be given about the status of the new traffic pattern after the trail period has expired.
