Morning Buzz – Feb. 8, 2011

City Council meets tonight at 7:30 p.m. in City Hall. On the agenda are Fred Howe III’s courts security proposal and an incentives deal for Castiglia’s on William Street.

In reading all of the coverage of Virginia’s Census stats, one question I’m thinking about trying to write about is this: Where is this region’s identity? Are we part of the Northern Virginia growth machine that is getting tons of press right now, or are we something else? If we’re our own region, how do we fight for attention and resources among NoVa, Hampton Roads and Richmond? Any thoughts?

    We are Northern Virginia, but unfortunately we can’t seem to face that reality….

    We have a dual identity; half No. VA, half Richmond. We’ll probably get a bigger bang for our buck if we claim our No. VA identity.

    Look around! Do you see anything along Rt 3 that is unique or special? We are not NOVA or Richmond, we are ANYBurb USA.
    Locals are so proud of downtown, Fredericksburg – people , open your eyes that place is a DUMP compared to cities that truly value their appearance and historic resources. With a home ownership rate of 30-35% we are vying with the likes of Newark, NJ. Kaiser Matt to follow …
