Fredericksburg and its partner in garbage disposal, Stafford County, beat the statewide recycling rate last year, according to a report released yesterday. The Rappahannock Regional Solid Waste Management Board (better known as the R-Board) reported a recycling rate of 45.4 percent last year, compared to 38.6 percent for the state and 37.3 percent in neighboring Spotsylvania County. Look for more on area recycling efforts from reporter Rusty Dennen in today’s paper.

For those of you looking to track Fredericksburg’s vital signs through data, business reporter Bill Freehling has begun posting several useful data sets on his Business Browser blog. Check the column on the lower right side of the blog for a running list of reports, including city building permits for last month and monthly sales tax stats for all area localities.
