Thursday - At noon at the old Town Hall on Princess Anne Street, the four ward council members will be sworn in for new terms. This includes incumbents Brad Ellis and George Solley as well as newcomers Fred Howe and Bea Paolucci. The council will elect its vice mayor, but that’s pretty much all they do at this ceremonial meeting.
Friday - At 6 p.m. on Caroline Street, Downtown Retail Marketing Inc. will unveil the six pieces of art it commissioned to place on the white wooden fence that blocks out the vacant lot between Wally’s Ice Cream and Bangkok Cafe. This project was funded with an $8,000 grant from the Economic Development Authority.
Saturday - The Heritage Festival will bring its usual mix of craft vendors and crowds to Sophia Street and the riverfront park. This is the first public event for the riverfront area. Look for more on the festival in Thursday’s Weekender.
And don’t forget that City Hall will observe Independence Day on Monday. Offices will be closed, and here’s what you need to know about city services:
- HOLIDAY TRASH AND RECYCLING SCHEDULE
- City offices will be closed Monday, July 5th in observance of Independence Day.
- The trash and recycling schedule will be as follows:
Monday’s trash will be collected Tuesday. Tuesday’s trash will be collected Wednesday. Monday and Tuesday’s recycling will be collected Tuesday.
- The Belman Rd Recycling Center and the Stafford Landfill will be closed Sunday, July 4th. Both will resume normal operations Monday, July 5th, 8am-5pm.
