John White withdraws from Ward 4 campaign, cites health

Been away from the office since Tuesday, but in checking my messages from the road this morning, I had a Friday call from John White, one of two people who have run write-in campaigns in the empty Ward 4 race for City Council.

White said he has had some health problems lately and is withdrawing from the race.

The candidate profiles that ran in todays paper were written before I left town earlier this week, when White was still a candidate (I have struggled this year with whether to call write-in campaigners candidates.).

That means the only individual still actively campaigning for the Ward 4 seat is Shawn Lawrence. Dont forget that write-in ballots must be counted by hand by the city Electoral Board, so we wont know the winner until Wesnesday.
