Fredericksburg can get snow removal aid from feds for December storm
You may be planting this summer’s tomatoes, but the Federal Emergency Management Agency is still trying to figure out who should get help with the first storm in our winter nightmare.
FEMA announced today that Fredericksburg and four other Virginia localities have been added to the list of places that are eligible for “infrastructure disaster aid,” which includes snow removal aid, connected to the Dec. 18 blizzard.
Technicalities in the eligibility requirements has previously kept Fredericksburg off that list, even though all the city’s neighbors were on it.
City officials reported that the December storm alone cost the city $242,000. Subsequent storm costs approach the $1 million mark. It is not clear how much federal aid the city will get toward those costs.
