Next week: Budget, Kalahari
Lots of government meetings next week. Here’s what to look for:
- Monday -
Economic Development Authority meets at noon at The Free Lance-Star’s new Print Innovators plant (they’re taking a tour before the meeting, so that’s why it’s here). They’ll hold a public hearing on whether to allow Kalahari Resorts to access up to $35 million in tax-free financing made available through the federal stimulus act. Kalahari President Todd Nelson will be in town for this. Bill Freehling will have a preview in Sunday’s business section. The authority will also make its last round of JumpStart grant awards for this fiscal year. That could include grants to the Bavarian Chef and the Celebrate Virginia Live concert series.
City Council – budget work session at 6 p.m. in City Hall.
School Board – meeting at James Monroe High School. The portion of the meeting that is open to the public starts at 7:30 p.m. Board members will take up next year’s school calendar.
- Tuesday -
City Council and the School Board will sit down to talk budget at 6 p.m. in City Hall. The mayor offered a preview of where he wants to take this discussion earlier today.
City Council regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. in City Hall.
- Wednesday -
Planning Commission meets at 7:30 p.m. in City Hall. Public hearing on the proposed preservation plan.
