A race for School Board?
UPDATE (2:31 p.m.): I just spoke with Kris Angstadt, who had indicated earlier he was considering running for the Ward 3 council seat. He said he has decided not to run this year. Does this mean we are looking at four uncontested races for the ward seats on council? Really? With taxes up, a $40 million courts complex in the works, Kalahari still in question and a budget crisis? I would not have predicted this a year ago.
I just checked in with the voter registrar to find out who’s filed for candidacy in the May 4 City Council and School Board elections (ward seats).
So far, only Ward 1 incumbent Brad Ellis and new Ward 3 candidate Fred Howe have filed on the council side, and Ward 1 incumbent Pat Green and Ward 3 incumbent Janice Walsh have filed on the School Board side.
But I was told that a packet was handed out to a potential challenger on the School Board side. I don’t know a name or what ward that person may be in, but if they end up filing, and if all the incumbents file, it could be the first time in a lot of folks’ memories that there has actually been a choice in the race for School Board.
Deadline’s at 7 p.m., so stay tuned.
