Downtown food. Yesterday was the start of Fredericksburg’s fifth annual restaurant week promotion. The event runs through Feb. 1, and gives visitors a chance to try new restaurants, with fixed-price menus available for lunch at $10.10 and for dinner at $20.10. Click here for more information on participating restaurants.

Also downtown, the University of Mary Washington centennial flags that have been attached to Caroline Street lamp posts since 2008 are being replaced, with banners showing a variety of images that represent Fredericksburg, including UMW’s bell tower and Monroe Hall, and Carl’s ice cream. The banners are a collaborative effort between the city and UMW. Read more about them in next week’s City & Spotsy Extra section.
