Schools budget calendar
If you read today’s story on the start of the city schools’ budget process and you’d like to learn more, here’s the School Board’s schedule for completing the 2011 budget:
Feb. 1 – superintendent makes budget proposal
March 1 – budget public hearing
March 1 or later – School Board adopts budget
April 1 – deadline to submit budget to City Council
May 15 – deadline for City Council to approve the portion of the budget that funds the schools
The city’s budget process has been going on in City Hall for several months, but it will begin in earnest at the City Council level on March 9, when the city manager will make his budget proposal. A public hearing on the city’s budget is scheduled for April 20.
