How the snow will affect city services

Here’s an update from City Hall:

Fredericksburg, VA – The City of Fredericksburg is continuing cleanup efforts from the major winter storm that occurred Friday and Saturday (December 18-19).  Although the bright sunshine is helping, the forecast calls for below freezing temperatures overnight into Monday morning.  Snow and ice will continue to pose a hazard to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic while the cleanup is underway.

Here is an update for City delayed openings and closures, and schedule changes.

Ø       Refuse Collection will be postponed one day.

o      Those normally collected on Mondays will be collected on Tuesday, December 22.

o      Those collected on Tuesdays will be collected on Wednesday, December 23.

o      There will be no refuse collection on Thursday, December 24th or Friday, December 25th.

Ø       In order to protect worker safety, Public Works will not collect refuse from private property areas unless paths are completely clear.  In order to insure collection, refuse may be placed at the curb.

Ø       FREDerciskburg Regional Transit will not have VRE feeder service in the City and Spotsylvania on Monday, December 21.  Route D6 – in North Stafford – is also cancelled.  Regular route service will start at 9:30 a.m. and run through 5:30 p.m. for City, Stafford, and Spotsylvania routes.

Ø       City Offices will be open on a two-hour delay (10:15 a.m.)

Ø       The Visitor Center will open at 10:00 a.m.

Ø       Circuit Court will be open as scheduled – no delay.

Ø       Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court will be closed.

Ø       Dorothy Hart Community Center will open on a two-hour delay.  Programs scheduled during the open hours will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Ø       Fredericksburg Social Services will be open on a two-hour delay.

Ø       Recycling will not be collected Monday.

o      On Tuesday, December 22, recycling will be collected from both the normal Monday and the normal Tuesday routes.

o      Wednesday, December 23 will be normal collection.

o      On Thursday, December 24, both Thursday and Friday routes will be collected.

              Here are some safety reminders:

·       Please drive carefully, and allow lots of room for the snow plows to work.  Please do not try and pass snow plows.

·       Take care when clearing driveways and sidewalks, and don’t overdo it.  When shoveling driveways, piling snow to the right of your driveway when facing the street will help prevent snow plows from re-depositing the snow across the entrance to your driveway as it passes by. Please try and have sidewalks clear within twelve hours of the end of the snowfall.

·       Continue to monitor local radio and television stations for updates on weather conditions.

Please call 911 for emergencies.  For non-emergencies, please use the Police Department non-emergency line of (540) 373-3122.  The Dominion Power Service Center is 1-888-667-3000.
