Visitors Center, FRED service closed today
Here is a release from City Hall on snow prep:
Fredericksburg, VA – The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the City of Fredericksburg. The current forecast calls for significant snowfall in the City, beginning Friday night and lasting through Saturday evening and perhaps into Sunday morning.
The City Public Works Department is prepared for snow clearing operations through the weekend. The City’s top priorities are the main traffic arteries, including William Street, Blue / Gray Parkway, Cowan Boulevard, Jefferson Davis Highway, Fall Hill Avenue, Princess Anne Street, Charles Street, Dixon Street, and the Central Park area.
FREDericksburg Regional Transit System will not have service this weekend. A decision will be made on Sunday by 6:00 p.m. concerning VRE feeder service on Monday morning. Main FRED Service Monday will also depend on road conditions, but is currently scheduled to run.
The Fredericksburg Visitor Center will be closed on Saturday. A decision will be made Saturday as to whether to close on Sunday. In addition, all activities at the Dorothy Hart Community Center will be closed this weekend.
The City asks for cooperation on downtown parking area clearance. Currently, the City has scheduled snow removal from on-street parking downtown to take place on Sunday night. Please do not park vehicles on Caroline Street and Princess Anne Street in the downtown area after 6:00 p.m. Sunday evening. The Sophia Street Parking Garage has sheltered parking available for the convenience of the downtown area.
Here are some reminders:
• Please drive carefully, and allow lots of room for the snow plows to work. Please do not try and pass snow plows.
• Take care when clearing driveways and sidewalks, and don’t overdo it. When shoveling driveways, piling snow to the right of your driveway when facing the street will help prevent snow plows from re-depositing the snow across the entrance to your driveway as it passes by. Please try and have sidewalks clear within twelve hours of the end of the snowfall.
• Please make sure to check any prescription medications and re-stock if necessary prior to the storm.
• Continue to monitor local radio and television stations for updates on weather conditions.
Please call 911 for emergencies. For non-emergencies, please use the Police Department non-emergency line of (540) 373-3122. The Dominion Power Service Center is 1-888-667-3000.
