City seeks to fill assistant manager position
Fredericksburg is advertising its assistant city manager position here. Beverly Cameron recently left that position to take the top job in City Hall.
Before hiring Cameron, Mayor Tom Tomzak and other council members had mentioned that the economic development director position has been vacant since October, so it might make sense to hire an assistant who could also play a role in economic development.
Hiring decisions that fall outside of the council’s three employees (manager, attorney, clerk) are under the city manager’s purview, not the council’s. The ad mentions that economic development experience is preferred, and Cameron said a new assistant manager could potentially play a role in the economic development department.
"How it all works out will depend upon who enters the applicant pool for consideration," he said.
