Council could vote to appoint Cameron city manager Aug. 11

Mayor Tom Tomzak reports that he and Interim City Manager Beverly Cameron have reached a tentative agreement on the terms of a contract to hire Cameron as city manager. The City Council is expected to vote on that contract Aug. 11.

Tomzak said Cameron’s 23 years’ experience as Fredericksburg’s assistant city manager are an asset to the city.

"A search [for outside candidates] would have been expensive and then we would have had somebody who would have needed a lot of on-the-job training," Tomzak said. "He really knows finance, he’s very fiscally conservative and very cognizant of the city’s bond rating."

Cameron yesterday declined comment until after council action.

    so the mayor negotiates the employment contract? Is this the same lead team that negotiated the agreement with Kalahari?
    Why didn’t the mayor appoint a 2 person committee to negotiate the contract?

    Do you think this is how the contract should be negotiated?

    Cameron can do a good job but that is not the point.

    for hiring and firing the City Manager, and for his/her annual performance evaluation. So they have THAT authority, but glasshouse doesn’t think they should negotiate the CM’s contract? Must have taken the nutty pill this morning…..

    How much further can the City Counsil put themselves at arms length from accountability / responsibility of acting in their constituents best interest? When it comes finger pointing time, not that it ever will, who should the citizens of Fredericksburg shake hands with; a hand filled with sand or a hand shake worthy of being taken, and binding on all those who would extend their hand, under oath, and representing ALL?
