Two years ago, a proposal to build 132 townhomes on 28 acres behind the auto dealers on U.S. 1 in the city got a chilly reception from the City Council. In fact, the applicant withdrew the proposal before an anticipated vote to deny the special use permit necessary for the project.
The development was to be called Summerfield, and it was to straddle the Spotsylvania-Fredericksburg line. Now, the property owner has applied for a rezoning in Spotsylvania. As Dan Telvock reports, it’s garnering some opposition from neighbors, just as it did in the city.
A new proposal for the city side of the development was submitted last year, but it has been on hold indefinitely at the property owner’s request.
