Road into police HQ named for Todd Bahr

City Council members just voted unanimously to name the private road that leads to the police headquarters on Cowan Boulevard for Todd Bahr, the Fredericksburg police officer who was killed in the line of duty in June of last year.

Police Chief David Nye told the council members that the police employees agreed that naming the road for Bahr would be one way to remember him.

"As the first anniversary of Todd’s death approaches, these symbols of remembrance are very important in the healing process," Nye said.

Police have designed two street signs to place on the road that say "Todd Bahr Drive" and include the logo that police recently added to their vehicles, which includes Bahr’s unit number, 337, and is based on the logo for the National Law Enforcement Memorial, with their permission.

The signs will be posted on the private drive, but the official address of the police headquarters remains Cowan Boulevard.

"We just feel it’s important for the police employees and visitors to be reminded of the ultimate sacrifice made by Todd," Nye said, and of the dangers police officers face on a daily basis.
