Downtown moves: Deli closing, ice cream shop opening

This report is by business reporter Bill Freehling. For more on downtown retail moves, checkout reporter Cathy Jett’s blog, Comings and Goings.

Olde Town Wine & Cheese Deli at 707 Caroline St. in downtown Fredericksburg will close at the end of March. Les Bullock had owned the restaurant since July 2006, though it had been run by previous owners for a decade before that. Rappahannock Properties is looking for a new tenant for the 1,900-square-foot space.

Scoops Whistle Stop, a soft-serve ice cream and homemade candy shop, will open in April at 719 Caroline St. in downtown Fredericksburg. It will be the second area shop for owners Brendan and Eileen Kelly. The other Scoops in the Town & Country shopping center in Stafford County serves hand-dipped ice cream and has been open for three years.
