These tree removals don’t have anything to do with the Sarah Palin rally, either
You may have seen placards on five trees on William Street that say they’re scheduled for removal. Before the rumor mill gets fired up again, here’s what’s up.
The block of William Street between Sunken Road and Littlepage Street will be closed next Wednesday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., as city crews remove five trees from the right-of-way along William Street.
The trees, which are estimated to be between 60 and 75 years old, have been found to be unsafe because they’ve deteriorated.
City Arborist David King said one of the trees is completely dead, and its limbs have been falling, and the other four have decayed so much that their trunks are at least half hollow.
“We really regret having to make this decision, but we would rather the trees come down on our schedule as opposed to their schedule,” King said.
Motorists should use Sunken Road, Hanover Street and Littlepage Street to detour around the work on Wednesday. If it rains, the city plans to reschedule the work for April 7.
