Wednesday notes

- The council last night approved a  measure appropriating the $1.4 million they have left for riverfront land acquisition and park prep toward that purpose this year. This was sort of a formality, because they don’t have the actual land deal in front of them yet. They’ve had several closed sessions about the negotiations. To see the resolution, go here.

- Spotsylvania Supervisors last night decided to make a small sacrifice in light of their budget problems. According to reporter Dan Telvock, they opted to stop eating dinner on the county taxpayers during their meetings. This is never a huge budget item, but it’s something that boards sometimes give up when times get tight. I saw the Lynchburg City Council do this in a particularly tight budget year when I was there. Fredericksburg council members typically dine on Chik-fil-A nuggets or Firehouse Subs before their meetings (although they did go to TruLuvs after their recent retreat–no cocktails included). This year’s budget includes an $11,000 line item for "subsistence and lodging" for the City Council.
