Commonwealth’s Attorney appointed judge

Gov. Kaine has appointed Commonwealth’s Attorney Charlie Sharp to be the Circuit Court judge in Fredericksburg. This seat has been empty since Judge John W. Scott Jr. died last spring. Kaine’s appointment is an interim appointment. The General Assembly will need to make its own decision on the appointment when it’s next in session.

Charles S. Sharp is appointed to the Fredericksburg Circuit Court.

            Sharp, 56, has been the elected Commonwealth Attorney for the City of Fredericksburg since March 1990. He previously was a partner in the lawfirm Barrett & Sharp from 1987 to 1990 and served as Assistant Commonwealth ’s Attorney in Stafford County from 1979 to 1987.

            Sharp received his undergraduate degree in English and history from Vanderbilt University and his J.D. from the University of Virginia in 1977.
