Forget the workin’ blues and let the good times roll

Looks like the city’s taken a cue from George Jones in renaming its First Friday event.

Look for more in the paper later this week, but starting in July, First Friday will become Finally Friday. The only change this will bring to the end-of-week after-work celebration is moving it from the first Friday of every month to the last Friday.

Why? Here’s how Parks and Recreation Director Bob Antozzi summed it up:

"By separating the block party from the celebration for local artists, Fredericksburg has the opportunity to program every Friday of the month. The City’s Downtown Economic Development Commission, for example, has talked about Arts Friday, Music Friday and Food Friday. Initiating the Finally Friday event is the first step in this concept."

First Fridays is a fairly universal arts thing in many communities, does this mean first Fridays for the galleries is still going to happen, or is that changing with the city event?

The arts event will still happen. It looks like the city is moving toward having a different them for every summer Friday night. So the arts would be First Friday, there could be other themes in the middle of the month and you’d see this event on the last Friday of the month. Should have more in the paper soon.
