Lawyers: Keep the courts downtown
Add the Fredericksburg Area Bar Association to the list of groups (four of them now) who have asked the city not to move the courts out to Lafayette Boulevard.
Bar Association President Robert Barlow of King George County presented a resolution from the group at last night’s City Council meeting.
He said the group represents about 250 lawyers around the region.
“I can attest that the courthouse being located on Princess Anne Street is of course convenient and really a boon to the downtown area,” Barlow said. “A courthouse complex out on Lafayette Boulevard … will draw a tremendous amount of daily foot trafficout of downtown … and really, I think, diminish businesses throughout the downtown area.”
After all the lawyerly whereas clauses, FABA’s resolution states:
“Therefore be it resolved by the Fredericksburg Area Bar Association that the Fredericksburg City Council is urged to maintain its courtrooms, judicial offices and adjunct facilities in the downtown area where they have well served the public for 275 years and that a representative of this bar association be permitted to participate in the deliberations on this important decision.”
