Expo subsidy

Two quick notes:

There’s somewhat of a mini-public hearing going on in the comments section at the bottom of this morning’s story about the city’s proposal to subsidize the Expo Center.

Here is a story about another convention center that’s not living up to expectations–Richmond’s publicly financed one.

Apples/Oranges Taxpayers paid huge to build Richmond facility, Fred. residents paid nothing. Richmond cannot show its facility generating hotel rooms (the true measure of a facility’s success). The article says the Richmond facility is failing because it’s not filling rooms. Not the case here. City has evidence to show rooms being filled as claimed. It’s easy to confirm the local expo is filling rooms: call ask City Treasurer or call and ask the hotel manager.
