Assessment appeals: Mark your calendars
The Board of Equalization gets up and running next month. Click here for the public notice of all of their meeting dates. If you want to get an overview of the process, you might want to head to City Hall at 10 a.m. Sept. 10. The Board will meet then with Blue Ridge Mass Appraisal Co. to talk about the overall reassessment process.
After that, they’ve got a slate of seven meeting dates for residents to come in and appeal their assessments. Those dates range from Sept. 17 to Oct. 29, and they include morning and evening times (see the PDF linked above for specifics, or look for the ad in the paper).
If you want to appeal your assessment, you need to get the application from the Commissioner of the Revenue’s office and turn it in by Oct. 15. Make an appointment by calling the Commissioner’s office at 540/372-1207.
