Clerk’s hours to be curtailed

There’s a sign on the Circuit Court Clerk’s office this morning that says that as of July 2, the office will only be open from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. until the city finds an alternate location.

“The unhealthy condition of the building requires this action to be taken,” the sign reads. “We regret any inconvenience this may cause, but the health of staff and the public is a priority for this office.”

Next to the sign is a copy of an order signed yesterday by Circuit Court Judge John W. Scott Jr., authorizing the hours change.

City officials are trying to find a space for the clerk’s office to relocate to. They’re eyeing the old firehouse next to the courthouse, and are also considering city-owned properties like the Executive Plaza. Council members will talk about this at their Tuesday meeting.

Look for more in the paper tomorrow about this development.
