Parking, Part XV-something

In case you’re going through withdrawal because it’s been a few weeks since there was public discussion of downtown parking, you can get your fix on Tuesday. Some of the ideas that were presented at this meeting are beginning to move through the governmental process.

City staff have written an ordinance that would change the fine structure to match the proposal in the above link, and to allow parking tickets to be sent through the mail. That appears to be headed for a May 8 public hearing.

City officials are also looking for the go-ahead from council to change Charlotte Street between Caroline and Sophia streets, and Princess Anne between City Hall and Charlotte Street from all-day to two-hour parking.

Council members will also be asked what they want to do with the proposals in this document, which call for parts of George and Charlotte streets to be converted to one-way traffic to make room for angled parking spots. Depending on what the council decides to do, there could be a public hearing on that as soon as May 22.
