More parking talk

Tune back into the downtown parking discussion on Feb. 20, at 6 p.m. at City Hall.

That’s when the Planning Commission and City Council will have their sit-down to talk about all the ideas that have been floating around on how to make the downtown parking rules more business-friendly.

Planning Commission Chairman Vic Ramoneda announced the work session right before the Planning Commission deferred action on the proposal to allow developers to pay a fee in lieu of providing required parking spots at its Wednesday afternoon meeting.

At that same meeting, commissioners recommended denial of a proposal to build 22 homes on 20 acres off Landsdowne Road, behind the Fredericksburg fairgrounds. The plan would have required turning industrial land into residential land, which planners said goes against the city’s Comprehensive Plan.
