Mountain View dance teams place in national competitions


The Mountain View Dance Teams  competed at the National Dance Team Competition in Myrtle Beach the weekend of March 8 and 9.  The school’s two teams competed against 26 other teams from up and down the East Coast, including teams from Stafford High School, Garfield High School and Woodbridge High School.

The teams began preparing for this competition back in July and the winter season has proved challenging with snow days leading to missed practices. resulted in missed practices.

On Saturday the teams competed in the Dance Classic Competition and varsity received First Place in Pom, Open, Modern, and Lyrical Routines and second in their jazz routine. The junior varsity team won First Place in Kick and Jazz; second in Hip Hop and third in Pom.


The EDA National Competition was held on Sunday and both teams faced even more competition.

Varsity received 1st in Pom, Lyrical, and Open as well as 2nd in Jazz. They were also recognized by receiving the Best Technique Award and a paid bid to the US Finals in Virginia Beach. JV kept up the team standings by placing first in kick and second in pom.  The JV team is coached by Crystal Rousseau.

The Varsity Dance Team was eligible for the National All Around Champion Award. This award required teams to compete in three or more categories during the Sunday competition. Then the  three highest scores were pulled and averaged to select the All Around Champion. There were a total of 14 teams competing for this award and the Varsity Dancers won this National Award. The Varsity team has been coached the past seven years by Kat Fish.

The teams also competed in the Solo and Ensemble categories and placed:

Junior solos:

2nd place- Kaitlyn Dodson

3rd place- Hannah Cruzan

5th place- Hannah Porter

6th and 7th place- Abigail Bishop


Senior solos:

1st place- Kyla Calhoun

2nd place- Haley Olsen

3rd place- Anna Bull

5th place- Adelyne Anderson

6th place- Candace Wolchak

7th place- Bryna Mueller

9th place- Katelyn Smith
