Mountain View student wins Air Force award

Conor Roberson was recently named the Non-commissioned Officer of the year by the Fredericksburg Composite Squadron.

An International Baccalaureate student at Mountain View High School was recently nominated by the Fredericksburg Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol as the Non-commissioned Officer of the year. Conor Roberson, a junior at Mountain View, was nominated just before winter break then received the award at the organization’s annual Dining Out event in early January. The award was presented by the Air Force Sergeants Association.

Conor received the Squadron level NCO award. On Feb. 2, he will go to Richmond for an interview with the selection board for the Wing level award. This means he will be competing against all of the other squadron’s nominees. The one who is selected by the board will be named the NCO of the VA Wing, then they go on to the Regional Selection. Ultimately, there is the national competition.

In addition, sophomore pre-IB student Matt Papandrea of the same squadron became a cadet captain. He is the first to receive the Earhart Award in this squadron in 4 years.
