Build a sculpture, feed the hungry

If you have some corn, peas and tomato sauce, you could have all of the supplies to build a Taj Mahal. Or a life-sized sculpture of Santa.

Stafford County’s Learn and Serve students will sponsor a Canstruction contest in January, where contestants build structures out of canned goods. After the competition, the nonperishable food will be donated to the Fredericksburg Area Food Bank.

Want to help? All you have to do is assemble a team, and register here. Then you need to develop a plan, and collect canned goods. You could do this by holding a food drive at your neighborhood, in your book club or at your place of work. Or each team member could snag a few extra cans each time they go to the grocery store.

The deadline to register is Friday (Dec. 14).

The competition will be held at Spotsylvania Towne Centre, Jan. 17-21. You can learn more here.
