Stafford School Board to Hold Public Hearing on Anne E. Moncure Elementary School Campus

The Stafford County School Board will host a public hearing at tonight’s 7 o’clock meeting at the Bandy Complex to hear citizen comment on the proposed sale of property on the Anne E. Moncure Elementary School campus.

Some think that the land the elementary school sits on along Garrisonville Road is more suited as mixed-use commercial property due to its location.

Supervisor for the Aquia District, Paul Milde said, “There are not only safety issues with a school so close to a busy road. It is also not the highest and best use of the property.”

On March 6 the Board of Supervisors finalized the agreement for a land transfer between the county and the county’s public schools in which the county purchases approximately 22.3 acres off Garrisonville Road behind in the Ferry Farm neighborhood. This land is to be conveyed to Stafford Public Schools as the new site for Anne E. Moncure Elementary School. In turn, the Stafford County Public Schools is to convey the current Anne E. Moncure campus to the County.

Stay tuned to The Chalkboard for updates during tonight’s meeting.
