Summer is hard for students who rely on free and reduced meals during the school year. In King George County, volunteers step in to try and fill the gap. Through Aug. 31, the Summer Lunch Bunch will deliver lunches throughout the county two days a week. This year, volunteers plan to deliver about 3,300 lunches.

And the group needs volunteers to help with lunch preparation.  Those interested can take a free class on cooking for crowds. This free class will be offered tomorrow (6.23),  9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Co-op Extension office, 540/775-3062.  To contact The Lunch Bunch, call 540/775-1014 or email

You can still volunteer with The Lunch Bunch, even if you don’t take the class.
