Volunteer to cheer

Eight Stafford schools will host the Special Olympics state basketball tournament this weekend. And organizers hope to crowd the gyms with cheering fans.

The Opening Night ceremonies will be held Friday, 7 p.m. at Mountain View High School.

The games begin Saturday at 9 a.m. and run until 2:30 p.m.

You can register to cheer and get the full schedule here.

There will be check-in desks at each venue. You’ll be able to make posters and signs at the desks. The volunteer to cheer press release offers this advice:

Feel free to dress up in your most fantatic costume or paint your face to show your enthusiasm. Everyone who comes out to cheer will also get free cheer sticks to help get them in the spirit.

Full disclosure: My oldest son will be one of the athletes on the court. Feel free to stop by and say hi!
