King George School Board increases bonuses

Full-time King George County schools employees will receive $1,000 bonuses this month—double what they expected.

School Board members today voted to add $500 to bonuses they approved last month. The division’s seven part-time employees will receive $750 stipends.

The board wasn’t scheduled to discuss bonuses at today’s meeting.

In response to a question, Superintendent Candace Brown said the division has about $400,000 in unspent money for the fiscal year that ends June 30.

School Board Chairwoman Renee Parker asked members to consider using some of that surplus to increase employee bonuses by $500. That will cost around $270,000, Brown said.

“I think they deserve it,” Parker said after the meeting. “They’re underpaid.”
