Stafford schools still considering makeup days

UPDATE: Stafford schools will be closed on Friday, the division just announced. The winter retreat has not been canceled.

Stafford County school officials haven’t decided if they will use Presidents Day this Monday as a makeup day. School spokeswoman Valerie Cottongim told me today that the decision could come as late as this Friday’s winter retreat. The School Board is scheduled to meet at 9 a.m. in the Bandy Complex for that work session. Look for updates at fredericksburg.com or the division’s Web site, staffordschools.net. Here’s what the school system’s Web site currently has posted regarding snow days:

Stafford County Schools will be closed through Friday, February 12.  All options for making up days missed because of inclement weather remain under consideration.  Depending upon the final assessment of the current weather threat, employees, students and parents should be aware that the Monday, February 15, holiday may be added as an instructional day as originally published in the approved calendar.  Stafford County Public Schools is seeking clarification from the State concerning any flexibility regarding make-up requirements for extenuating inclement weather circumstances.  Information regarding make-up days will be shared with the media and posted on www.staffordschools.net as soon as any more detail becomes available.
