At the end of June, Library Director Kay Brooks will retire after 33 years with Caroline County.

Brooks was the county’s first library director and was hired in 1980 after the Board of Supervisors voted to withdraw from the Central Rappahannock Regional Library.

She’s helped expand the library system to include branches in Bowling Green, Ladysmith, Port Royal and Dawn.

The Board of Supervisors honored her with a resolution at the June 11 meeting and she introduced Maureen Dorosinski, who will become the new library director July 1.

Have you had any particularly memorable experiences with Mrs.Brooks? I’d like to hear about them.

You can shoot me an email at rsidersky@freelancestar.com or give me a call at 540-374-5413.
