Caroline man wins $100k from lottery

A Caroline County man is the fifth and final winner of the $100,000 top prize in the Crossword scratcher game from Virginia Lottery.

Carl Johnson, of Woodford, bought the last winning Crossword ticket Friday, July 18, at the Lafayette Gulf gas station in Spotsylvania County.

Since he bought the winning ticket on a Friday night, Johnson had to wait until Monday to collect his winnings.

“I’ve been on pins and needles,” he said while receiving the check.

Virginia Lottery closed the $100,000 Crossword scratcher game after learning the fifth top prize had been claimed.

Johnson, who manages a car dealership, said he has no immediate plan for his winnings.
