Port Royal Post Office to have reduced hours

Even though several Port Royal residents spoke against changes to their Post Office yesterday, plans for reducing the branch’s hours are moving forward.

Postmaster Chris Hawkins said he was instructed to post a notice today informing the customers of the reduced hours.

The new hours will be Monday through Friday, 9:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m, with a lunch break from 1-2 p.m. The Saturday hours will remain the same: 8 a.m. to noon.

Hawkins said he doesn’t know when the new hours will begin, but expects to find out any day now.

The notice posted at the branch, dated today, says:

Dear Customer:

The Postal Service has concluded the POST Plan review process for the PORT ROYAL PO. Customer survey responses, input from the community meeting, and the operational needs of the Postal Service were considered in reaching the implementation decision.

It has been determined that the PORT ROYAL PO will provide 6 hours of window service each weekday. Current Saturday window service hours will not be reduced and access to delivery receptacles will not change as a result of the POST Plan realignment of the weekday window service hours.

The Postal Service will announce the date of implementation and the operational hours of the office at a dater date to allow for the completion of the administrative tasks associated with the implementation.
