Planning Commission to continue mining discussion
The Caroline Planning Commission will continue its discussion on the proposed mine at Moss Neck Plantation in a work session tonight.
The planners began a discussion about the mine at their meeting June 18. Nearly 20 people gave their opinion during public comment.
The sand and gravel mine is being proposed by Maryland-based Chaney Enterprises.
The company plans to use 544 acres of the 1,209-acre property for mining. However, representatives said no more than 30 acres would be used at one time. Of those 30 acres, 10 would be used for mining, 10 for preparation and 10 for reclamation.
The work session begins at 7 p.m. in the Community Services Center, 17202 Richmond Turnpike.
