The Bowling Green Volunteer Fire Department will serve up Brunswick stew Saturday.
Members will spend Saturday cooking and have it ready by Saturday afternoon. The stew will sell for $8 a quart and pre-orders can be placed through the department’s Facebook page. Only 80 quarts will be sold.
The recipe is ”an old family recipe straight outta Brunswick County” according to the department’s website.
The stew is generally tomato-based, with different types of lima beans, butter beans, corn, okra and other vegetables, in addition to meat. Instead of squirrel and rabbit meat, chicken will be used, according to department’s website.
